Zara in South Africa

When talking about famous street-wear brands that could become overly successful all over the world, then Zara should be one of the key brands that come to mind. One overly innovative brand, that is always on the look for the latest trends, recreating these into cosy and elegant pieces that can be worn for any or for special occasions. In our article, we would like to represent you to this well-known brand Zara alongside its availability in South Africa.

Zara is a real success store especially when we consider the fact that it doesn’t come from any of the big fashion capitals of the world, and most possibly this plays a great role in its prices being always more affordable, even though its clothes are as stylish as any French or Italian pieces. Combining the Mediterranean flavour for colours and great tailoring Zara gives everyone the chance to clothe elegantly in any and every time of the day. Today, Zara has its women’s collection, its teens and kids’ collection and it is also popular for creating stylish menswear.

The brand Zara was born in Galicia in a small city called Areixo near the capital of the region La Coruna. It’s founders, two young designers at that time called Amancio Ortega and Rosalia Mera have sold the brand in the early Eighties which, after that has started its real flourishing. In the Nineties Zara stores opened all over the world and from the 2000’s the brand has started its worldwide conquest, with setting up stores in the Middle East, in Australia, New Zealand and also in all the bigger cities of Asia.

Today there is a Zara in virtually all the big shopping centres, no matter which continent you go. The brand is very popular also in South Africa, the climate of which is overly similar to the Mediterranean region of Spain. Today, Zara is part of the huge Inditex Group that is considered the largest retailer of clothes in the world.

Although today its style is greatly influenced by the exact region the clothes are sold, we can all agree on a couple of features that do not change. Zara likes the Mediterranean style which all in all is a huge fan of the colours beige, black and white, which loves feminine however still cosy pieces ( of course only when talking about the women’s collection). Zara is also popular for being one of the first giant fashion brands that started to promote “Green” production of clothes, which means, during the production the least harm is made in nature.

Zara stores available at Sandton City in Johannesburg, Gateway in Durban and at the V&A in Cape Town.
